Lesson 1

  • General discussion about storytelling. 

  • Tell students they will learn how to tell a story in English. 

  • Brainstorming: What is a good story? How to be a good storyteller? Put ideas on the board. 

  • Click on the video - ask students to make notes.

  • Ask students to come to the board to add more ideas. 

  • Play the the next video - storytelling tips

  • If there is time, ask students to use tablets to find more tips on storytelling.

Lesson 2

  • In groups of three or four students talk about their experience in the UK. Students make a note of the most interesting, amusing, memorable moments.

  • Click on the "How to write a story" link and go through the main points with the whole group. Focus on headlines and ask students to skim through the text. 

  • In groups of three or four students write a story based on their experience in the UK. Tell students it should be a science fiction/fantasy story. Circulate and correct mistakes. The story should not be longer than 5 minutes.

Lesson 3

  • ​Play the exercise video. Do the exercise with one student first and then ask students to do the exercise in their groups. 

  • Ask students to rehearse their stories - tell students that everybody needs to participate; they may break up the story into parts or act out dialogues from the story. Students may use tablets to record themselves for self-correction. 

  • Students tell their stories in front of the whole group.
